Maple syrup buyers and processors are responsible for guaranteeing to their clients around the world that all requirements have been met. To achieve this, they must ensure maple syrup compliance right from the very first link in the food chain\u2014the sugar bush,\u201d says Louis Turenne, President of the Maple Industry Council.<\/p>\n<p>Exporting 153 million pounds of maple products to more than 60 countries around the world in 2024, the MIC\u2019s processors must meet consumer needs as well as various market realities and requirements. Food retailers require certification from their suppliers based on the recognized global food safety standards of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), which includes a supplier approval program that applies to maple syrup supply. It\u2019s a team effort: processing companies ensure that their product is bottled and processed according to industry hygiene and food safety standards while producers must produce maple syrup that meets market requirements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe MIC\u2019s vision is to establish a prosperous and sustainable industry that markets a product recognized for its quality and that contributes to the renown of Qu\u00e9bec knowhow. In terms of market development, we\u2019ve set our sights on annual growth that exceeds 5%.
