If we want to support its growth and protect its international reputation, we need concrete actions now\u2014particularly in terms of market diversification and protecting the integrity of our products,\u201d says Louis Turenne, President of the MIC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A growing, but fragile, industry<\/strong><br \/>\nIn 2025, maple product exports rose by 16%, reaching $844 million. But this growth hangs in the balance\u201464% of these exports are destined for the American market, exposing the industry to the hazards of the current trade situation.<\/p>\n<p>Market diversification is now not only essential, it\u2019s urgent, particularly in Europe and Asia, in order to bolster the resilience of Qu\u00e9bec businesses and support long-term growth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Safeguarding quality and reputation<\/strong><br \/>\nMaple syrup is known and renowned as a 100% pure product, a symbol of Qu\u00e9bec knowhow. It is crucial to strengthen the mechanisms that prevent and penalize fraudulent practices, particularly the adulteration of maple syrup.<\/p>\n<p>Adopting a more robust legislative framework\u2014like the one in Vermont\u2014would better safeguard the integrity of products, consumer trust, and the reputation of Qu\u00e9bec maple syrup across international markets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaple syrup is a source of Qu\u00e9bec pride, but also a strategic economic asset. Qu\u00e9bec has everything to gain by investing in the growth of the maple industry, a sector that generates wealth here and has reached consumers worldwide.
